Trick or Trade?

The WTO conference will be held in Hong Kong next month. What does the conference mean to us besides extra holidays due to demonstrations? We enjoy almost all kinds of imported goods with good quality and low prices. But while we go shopping on the weekends and enjoy discounts and sales, how much do the garment factory workers or farmers actually earn ? Is their income enough to live decent lives? Is it enough to pay for their children's school fees?

The WTO regulates global trade rules. But how transparent is it? Are the views of developing countries considered?

We have lots of questions to ask, just like many of you.

Are you willing to learn more with us? Do you think there are answers to all these questions?

"Make poverty history through fair trade" - is this true? Or just a slogan?

In order to answer the above questions, we are going to launch a series of events 25 days before the conference.

Who are we?
Youth from different sectors, including teachers, university students, engineers, social workers, who joined the Oxfam campaign partners youth training program in June 2005. After attending workshops and an exposure trip to the Philippines, we learned more about the present trade system and would like to join hands with other youth to build a better world.
